About the Role

We are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing support, resources, and guidance to stroke survivors and their families across Australia. We believe in the power of emotional healing and mental well-being in the stroke recovery journey. To enhance our services, we are seeking a compassionate and experienced Stroke Recovery Counsellor to join our team.


  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions to stroke survivors and their families, helping them cope with emotional and psychological challenges related to stroke recovery.

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify clients' needs and develop personalised treatment plans.

  • Offer emotional support, active listening, and empathy to create a safe and non-judgmental environment for clients to express their concerns and fears.

  • Utilise evidence-based therapeutic techniques to assist clients in managing stress, anxiety, depression, grief, and other emotional issues associated with stroke recovery.

  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team at our organisation to ensure coordinated care and holistic support for clients.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, progress notes, and treatment plans.

  • Stay updated on the latest research, best practices, and therapeutic approaches related to stroke recovery counselling.



  • Degree or certification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in providing counselling services.

  • Strong knowledge of the emotional and psychological impact of stroke on individuals and their families.

  • Empathetic and compassionate nature with excellent active listening skills.

  • Ability to establish rapport and build trust with clients quickly.

  • Knowledge of evidence-based counselling techniques and interventions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Highly organised and able to manage a caseload effectively.

  • Familiarity with online counselling platforms and technology.
