About the Role

Are you a passionate and skilled Occupational Therapist looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of stroke survivors? Stroke Survivors Australia is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as Occupational Therapists. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to contribute your expertise and support stroke survivors in their journey towards recovery and independence. This possition is also open to 3rd party contacts.


  • Conduct assessments of stroke survivors' functional abilities, including activities of daily living (ADLs), mobility, and cognitive skills.

  • Collaborate with stroke survivors to develop personalized treatment plans that address their specific needs and goals.

  • Provide therapeutic interventions and strategies to enhance stroke survivors' independence and maximize their engagement in meaningful activities.

  • Assist stroke survivors in regaining or developing skills related to self-care, homemaking, work, leisure, and community participation.

  • Recommend and facilitate the use of adaptive equipment and assistive devices to promote independence and safety.

  • Educate stroke survivors and their families on strategies for managing challenges related to mobility, cognition, and self-care.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including Physiotherapists, Speech Therapists, and Social Workers, to provide comprehensive care to stroke survivors.

  • Stay updated on the latest research and best practices in stroke rehabilitation and occupational therapy.


  • Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.

  • Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Occupational Therapist.

  • Prior experience working with stroke survivors or in a neurological rehabilitation setting is preferred but not required.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with stroke survivors and their families.

  • Empathy, patience, and a person-centered approach in delivering care.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Access to technology and willingness to provide remote/telehealth services.
